At Little Forest Folk Winkworth we love the mud and rain … especially the big puddles that come with it! After some splashing we might get a little soggy, but as the children like to remind us “It’s only water!” Our little adventurers have loved seeing how the Arboretum is changing with spring on the way. This week, we have been focused on understanding the world and exploring the natural materials we find around us.

As our Little Forest Folk-ers have been settling into the forest here at Winkworth we’ve enjoyed exploring all our forest rules together. The little ones have been gaining confidence explaining how to keep themselves safe, doing the actions and even singing along to our new forest school song!

Love is in the air as well as all the aromas from the One Stop Valentine Parfumerie. Many customers lined up excitedly to wait for their chosen scent of Sweet Sparkle or Forest Fresh. 

From bug hunts and exploration, to chasing the morning sun, what an adventurous, fun and happy week we have had in the forest!

This week in the forest started stormy and ended in crisp sunshine and it’s been a privilege to see our little adventurers playing their hearts out in all kinds of weather.

This week at Little Forest Folk Winkworth, we have been focusing on our fine motor skills! In particular, we’ve been supporting our little ones to develop their skills with independent eating and using a variety of tools and utensils. The forest is an amazing place to develop little fingers - there’s so much to collect with our tweezers and wheelbarrows and dig up and transport with our trowels, rakes and scoops.

There is not only the forest floor for our Little Forest Folk-ers to explore, this week we have been looking up into the tree canopy on a bird watch. Clipboards and binoculars at the ready, we set off looking for birds. We had some images of local birds that we could tick off when we saw them and we discovered that the most common bird visiting our forest was the gorgeous Robin.
