Little Forest Folk-ers learn to recycle and reuse!
We have been sorting and recycling both man-made and forest materials. ♻️The ‘bin’ lorry 🚛 , made from crates and tyres, proved a great hit as the children climbed aboard by walking the plank and balanced on top of the log at the top. 🪵
Our little explorers collected flowers, pine cones, leaves and chestnuts using litter pickers and tweezers, putting them in the correct labelled buckets outside the fairy houses 🧚♀️🏡 and then transported them using the wheelbarrows to the ‘Little Forest Folk’ recycling centre where they were sorted into bigger buckets. 🪣
We then used some of the found materials to give them a new life and purpose. We threaded leaves and flowers onto string to make beautiful necklaces and painted leaves, sticks and pinecones with pretty colours. 🍂🍃🌈 Some of our little ones enjoyed painting our hands and making hand prints too! 👋🖌🎨😆
We decided to explore the Arboretum with a mission… it was operation mushroom! 🍄 With our mushroom ID sheets we carefully studied the ground and trees to see what we could see. On the dead wood in the log piles 🪵 we found an interesting flat green fungus and identified it as Birch Mazegill. We talked about mushroom safety and how we don’t pick them or eat them.
We checked on our little greenhouse and discovered that the radish seeds we had planted last week have begun to show shoots and leaves! 🌱 We watered them and zipped them up back in the greenhouse to keep them safe. 💦 We can’t wait to see them grow big and strong.
We hope that you all have a lovely weekend!
