Spring is nearly upon us, and we have been urging it to come a little faster as we spotted as many signs as we could this week!
The daffodils are displaying their sunny yellow faces in the forest, and we have been busy planting wildflowers and other spring bulbs to keep them company. Earlier in the week, we prepared an area at the bottom of the meadow to sow different types of native wildflower seeds. Before planting, we had a chance to investigate them using magnifying glasses, trying to figure out how one tiny seed can hold such beautiful flowers! The children have also been pointing out the early stems of the bluebells on our walks and are very excited for when they finally bloom, because it means spring is truly here!
We've also been working on our balancing skills this week, using our slack line and climbing tree. It's exciting exploring how to lean our weight forwards or backwards to keep us steady on the slackline and working out which technique works the best to help us successfully cross to the other side. In the climbing tree, we have been using our estimating skills to figure out which branches will take our weight and how to move our body to make it easier to climb.
To add even more Earth-science to our week, we created a fake volcano eruption by mixing bicarbonate and vinegar together. We loved hearing the volcano begin fizzing and watching the red liquid begin to bubble up and over the rim of the volcano. It was very stinky though, and we all agreed that we wouldn't want to be nearby if a real volcano was erupting!
What a great week, we hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
