This week we have had an absolute blast and we certainly have not let the rain or changing weather stop our fun! We started the week with loads of pretend play. We built our own PAW patroller car for the children to play on and they loved pretending to be their favoured pups - it has been wonderful seeing how Halloween has inspired their play and their imaginations! 

We’ve also been enjoying reading some much beloved stories such as Dear Zoo and Hairy McClary which the children can repeat phrases back from altogether, learning rhymes as they go! Our educators have also brought in their favourite stories and these have inspired some amazing games of chase where everyone turned into a Spider-Man!

We’ve reached the end of another wonderful week here at Little Forest Folk Morden! Our ears have been filled with beautiful stories and poems, while our hands have been busy mark making. ✨

Autumn is in full swing here in the forest and the brilliant activities we've been enjoying has reflected this in the beautiful colours and natural materials we've been using! 

This week in the forest our intent has been physical development! We have been running and jumping through the forest and beyond! We’ve also been spending a bunch of time getting creative and learning about the colours in nature!

We set off on plenty of adventure walks, exploring the woods together and discovering the beauty of nature around us. Along the way, we gathered information about plants, observed the changing seasons and even enjoyed some bird watching - spotting and learning about different types of birds in our environment. 🦢🦜

On Monday all the children also had the opportunity to practice using their senses as a way to regulate starting off the week with an activity focussed upon discussing our senses such as sight, sound, touch, taste and smell.

What a magical week we've had in the forest, full of curiosity, care and communication!

One of our adult led activities this week, while we were sheltering from the storm, was making some animal masks! It was lovely to see the children using such rich language to describe each animal and their unique features - "my tiger is stripy!" and "my monkey has a fuzzy chin!".

This week at Little Forest Folk Morden has been full of child-led exploration, creativity and plenty of outdoor adventures. It’s been wonderful to see the children express themselves and take charge of their learning, all whilst having fun.

Sculpting, painting and illustrative skills have filled our forest this week as our wonderful adventurers have been super creative in how they have been expressing their art in different forms. 

This week, we dusted off our imaginations and popped on our creative hats for a wonderfully crafty week of Arts & Design! From up-cycling forest finds to turning everyday waste” into wonders, the children explored the power of creative thinking and resourceful play.

With the guidance of our watchful educators, brave feet scampered up trees in search of forest treasures - juicy berries and crunchy leaves turned into ingredients for woodland ‘feasts’!🧗‍♀️🌳

This week the children have also enjoyed weaving vines and leafy branches on our giant nature loom in the back, a busy morning was spent gathering and creating their own natural fabric.

This week at Little Forest Folk Morden has been such a fun one, we have been relishing in all the remaining time with some of our leavers and our sessional children before they head off for the rest of the summer. ☀️

One of the most exciting moments was “constructing a pond” right in our car park - completely from scratch! Our curious little learners gathered pebbles, layered the base with sand and worked together to bring the pond to life.

Following the intent of the week, we set off an adventure walk to Cannon Hill Common to do some research on the local area. The children sang, ran and skipped their way all the way to the pond where we fed the ducks and ducklings, reflecting on what makes a pond different from a river and which famous River is nearby. We’re all really excited to make our own pond back at the nursery and look forward to all the new wildlife this will bring to the forest!

We started off our week with a fantastic new arrival to the forest, Misty the Canoe 🛶. Our adventurers were so excited for this new resource & they spent the whole week sailing across oceans to different countries & continents 🗺️. With each country they sailed to, it gave us the opportunity to talk in more detail about where we had travelled, which helped us learn more about different cultures. 

One of the activities that our little explorers took part in was creating an Earth Day poster - they used all their small handprints to decorate the Earth. This opened up so many questions about recycling and how we can look after our beloved animals too. ✨ They finished off the poster with “ We can change our Earth with our own two hands.” ✨
