The children also worked together to help make a climbing ladder using strong sticks. They showed fantastic teamwork and determination while learning how to climb safely and challenging themselves by climbing up high. It has been lovely to see their confidence continue to grow.
Chiswick - Coots Nests with Spotty Eggs, Moorhens, Ducks & Goslings
So far on our walks, we’ve spotted a coot nest with spotty eggs, moorhens swimming with their funny chicken feet, and lots of mallard ducks. We talked about how we can tell the difference between the male and female ducks because they’re different colours. We especially loved the shiny green on the males’ heads. We were very lucky to spot some Canada Geese and six goslings!
Chiswick - What a wild week in the forest! 🌳
we have been investigating birds this week. The binoculars and our avid birdwatchers scanned the treetops for the source of the sweet singing we hear daily in the forest. Our efforts paid off and we spotted a song thrush speeding across the path and lots of blue tits and robins! The usual visitors of magpie, parakeets, and crows were also loudly making themselves known, with our "resident" woodpigeons Mo and Flo poking around the snack circle to tidy up any fallen crumbs. 🦋🐛
Chiswick - The Lifecycle of Frogs and Butterflies with Nest Spotting
We’ve also been looking at lifecycles, with focus on frogs and butterflies. We can’t quite get close enough to the river to see if we can spot any tadpoles
Out in the forest some of the children took part in an engaging letter activity, writing and placing letters around the forest where they were working collaboratively.
Chiswick - Joyful Music and Wonderful Maths in the Forest!
We began with a joyful music session, where children explored a variety of instruments. From shaking and tapping to listening and moving they expressed themselves freely while developing rhythm, coordination and confidence.

Chiswick - Bow Saws, Palm Drills to Wooden Spinners
This week, we placed a strong focus on tool work, building on the children’s skills and confidence. The children had the opportunity to use bow saws and palm drills, creating their very own wooden spinners - this was a big highlight and they were incredibly proud of their creations! It was also a fantastic continuation of last week’s work, where we practiced splitting wood using mallets.

Chiswick - Blossoming Flowers, Sprouting Trees and Different Birds
The children noticed blossoming flowers, sprouting trees and different birds flying around the forest. Thank you so much to everyone who was able to join us for our Christmas party last week.
