Chiswick - Literacy With Lots Of Enthusiasm!

Dear Families,

We hope you all had a lovely Easter break and managed to enjoy some well-deserved rest and sunshine over the long weekend. Though this week was slightly shorter, it was certainly packed with excitement, creativity, and joyful learning in the forest!

We’ve been diving into literacy with lots of enthusiasm. The children have been practicing letter formation through name writing, taking pride in recognising and writing the letters that make up their names. Our older children also engaged in phonics play, linking initial letter sounds with familiar words. It’s been a great way to develop early reading and writing confidence in a playful and meaningful way.

Our forest was buzzing with imaginative play this week. The children transformed into fishermen, crafting their own fishing rods and casting them into the muddier puddles they could find—much to their delight! Later, the muddy banks gave way to our very own woodland shop, with children taking turns as shopkeepers and customers, trading pinecones, leaves, and all kinds of natural treasures. These moments were rich in collaboration, role play, and communication.

On the creative side, we continued experimenting with tie-dye techniques, using vibrant colours to decorate T-shirts and pieces of fabric. The children loved the process of folding, twisting and dipping the cloth. We can’t wait to see how their beautiful designs turn out once dry. It’s been a wonderful way to explore colour mixing, pattern making and self-expression.

Our outdoor adventures took us further afield through the park, where we’ve been taking full advantage of the warmer weather. The signs of spring are all around us and the children have been noticing more and more each day. From blooming flowers to the buzz of bees and the cheerful songs of birds, the forest has been a rich and sensory learning space. Climbing trees, observing nature and simply running freely through the open space have helped us reconnect with the rhythm of the season.

As always, thank you for your continued support. We’re excited for more springtime adventures next week as we continue to nurture curiosity, creativity and connection in the great outdoors.
