This week, whilst our sessional children are on their half term, we have welcomed in friendly new faces for our holiday camp. We love the new dynamic this creates and where new slightly older children continue to solidify their understanding of looking after younger ones, our Little Forest Folk-ers get a new learning experience in the form of different play styles and socialisation. In fact, we even see our Little Forest Folk-ers proudly shine in the way they share their space and explain the ways of the woodlands during the rules and throughout the day!
In the forest this week we have been on an adventure walk every day to go on a mushroom hunt! The fungi around us has been flourishing over the past few weeks and many more are emerging below trees and all over the branches of felled trees. Accompanied by melodic chants of “We’re going on a mushroom hunt! We’re going on a mushroom hunt!”, excited eagle eyes have been in their element!
Here, fascinated forest friends used great language skills rich in different vocabulary to describe the huge variety of fungus. As always, moments like these are great for helping children understand some of our safety rules and conversations around how these can be poisonous and not to touch, and these are entrenched by educators and reaffirmed by all as we move along.
We hope you have time to go on some walks this weekend; we’re confident your little ones will be able to show you the thousands of mushrooms that adorn the great outdoors this time of year!
