Twickenham - Diwali, Pumpkins & Fire Safety

Hello, everyone! We are missing our sessional friends but also delighted to welcome back familiar faces as holiday campers. We have had a jam packed week full of fun and engaging activities celebrating Diwali, preparing for Halloween, and learning about tool and fire safety!

We started the week learning about Diwali, the festival of light, by reading a story book about this wonderful and meaningful celebration. We then made small lanterns using pale yellow play dough and decorating them with shiny sequins.

The craft table has been busy all week preparing for Halloween. We made monsters using recycled cardboard and decorated them with googley eyes, colourful cut out shapes for mouth and teeth, and a variety of interesting details. We also made mummies by wrapping paper dolls with white wool; spooky ghosts by sticking cotton wool on cut-out ghost shapes of different sizes; and a ‘Hairy Scary Castle’ by painting and decorating a big recycled box.

Each day of the week, we carved one pumpkin, each with its own emotion. It was such a fun sensory experience as we scooped out the slimy seeds and flesh from within. Our mud kitchen was turned into a potion station as we mixed and stirred bubbling and colourful liquids!

We also had a week full of learning about tool and fire safety. We learnt how to safely use a bow saw to create our own wooden cookies that we can draw and decorate on; and also how to use a hammer to secure our wooden pallet. Towards the end of the week, we made our own little fire on cotton wool nestled in a pile of sand in a scallop shell by using a fire steel to spark the fuel!

Thank you all for making the forest full of fun and laughter! See you soon!
