The swings at both the forest and the field always prove to be a big hit and at the start of the week, educators adjusted the set up so that we could have two log swings instead of one tyre swing. We were interested to see that some of the children decided to transfer forest knowledge to this space, by deciding to build a safety circle from the loose branch parts all around. This was a big help, and we really applaud the awesome idea!
In the forest a brand new game evolved around the giant swing, based on the fun game of skittles. Here, educators and children took turns twisting and pushing a formation of “strong and short” sticks into the earth in the space below the swing. Children were then launched, focussing their legs to strike!! So many children had a good go at this and it was tremendously exciting for all involved, with huge delight at success when the skittles were successfully downed!
Educators, skilled and creative at rope and knots, have also been building some intricate spiderwebs that make the children “very, very tall” when they reach the top. Impressive gross and fine motor skills are clearly improving all the time here, and alongside some educator support, children are skilfully mastering all sorts of these tricky aerial challenges.
We can’t wait to make more complex rope spider webs next week for everyone. Hoping you all have a great weekend and where possible, treat yourself to some rest too!
