Planting season is in full effect and the week began with some runner bean seed planting. We were also able to plant out some from a previous session that had grown several centimetres, so we were able to investigate how the dried bean saturates, gets bigger, and splits as the sapling sprouts and grows out of it. Everyone loves watering, and some children helped Matt think about what item could puncture milk bottle lids to make watering cans. We needed something “sharp, pointy and hard” and after a few suggestions we settled on a tent peg and worked out that the best place to get one would be from around the toilet tent. We can’t wait to watch these grow and finally complete the cycle of investigation by using some beans as seeds next season.
In the forest this week the drier environment makes for great art sessions. In these areas we have been making dozens of masks and crowns all day long, and the children have loved being highly involved in the entire creative design process. From drawing, sizing, snipping, trimming, and knot tying this type of activity is brimming with great developmental moments.
We hope you all have lovely weekends!
