What a busy, buzzing week we had in the forest as we celebrated World Bee Day in Twickenham!
May 20th is a special day to raise awareness about the importance of bees in our planet and our Little Forest Folk-ers made sure that they were part of this global effort. Magnifying glasses and insect spotter sheets were used by our little detectives to spot buzzing bees and other fluttering and crawling tiny insects around our camp site. After investigating the bee’s body parts and unique features, we made our own bee crafts in various sizes: small ones using oval shaped stones, medium sized ones using toilet tube rolls, and a massive queen bee using yellow and black paint in our large tuff tray. Some children had their faces painted as honeybees before flying around the forest to collect ‘pollen’ (colourful pom poms) and deliver them in their beehives made from recycled boxes and egg cartons. As we had nice, sunny weather most of the week, bees and children alike needed to stay hydrated: the bees in our neighbour apiary hung out in the swamp that we have in the mud kitchen, while we enjoyed a cup of cool honey lemonade we made after having a chat about how hard working these black and yellow little creatures are!
We hope you all have a nice weekend, and we’ll see you next week!
