Celebratory cheers resounded around the log circles this week as the final certificates were passed to the eldest children off to start “big school”. The Little Forest Folk Wandsworth community, created between families and practitioners is wonderful, so as emotional as these farewell moments can be, we are thankful for the joyful memories made over years.
At the same time, we have loved being introduced to the new cohort and families, with some children on settling sessions and several others on their very first solo missions in the forest and on the field! We have been suitably impressed with how easily all new starters have settled, beginning their adventurous journeys with much gusto.
This week in the forest a pirate theme pervaded the plotlines, with a ginormous rope and branch galleon rig dominating one corner of the forest. Dan even took on a pirate character over several days, with a stunning feathered tricorne, a gruff voice, and a wooden box full of genuine silver coins. On Thursday afternoon Dan organised a treasure hunt adventure walk, cutting out giant X’s and hiding them around the forest beforehand with a coin lightly buried beneath each one. Every child had the opportunity to dig for treasure and I’m sure many of you will have been proudly shown some shiny coins from rucksack pockets.
Adventure walks are a great way to introduce children to all that the forest has to offer, and we will continue to insert similar elements of fun, so everyone can work on their investigative abilities.
We hope your own adventures are equally as fun this weekend and that you can find time for all important rest. We can’t wait to officially begin with the whole new cohort next week!
