Wandsworth - harvesting the remaining tomatoes

The week began with one of the last chances to harvest the remaining tomatoes. We set a record this year for the amount grown and we hope that some of you got to enjoy the fruits of good fun and hard work at home; some children have certainly enjoyed eating them here! Several carrots were also teased from the soil, and whilst they were very tiny, they were no less loved by all, with children proudly and happily showing them to friends and educators. Next on the to-do list is sowing seeds for onions, broad beans, turnips, and radishes; we can’t wait to watch these grow.

In the forest we learnt about growing of a different kind after discovering a little lumpy toad under a log-circle log. Contained carefully in Matt’s hands, everyone had a good chance to have a look at our new friend, making detailed observations and having great ideas about what it was even doing under there in the first place. We found out together whilst young they love to be in warmer dark places that are rich in moisture. With this, we decided the best place to put her was back under the log. The lovely little toad has even become part of our hello and goodbye song!

It’s certainly been a shorter week because of the bank holiday and the inset day, but no less fun. We hope you have a good weekend, and we’ll see you all soon.
