At the start of the week the whooshing wind was perfect for kite flying! The gusts created glee across the plain of the bowling field as creations flapped and fluttered around us all! The children got stuck in designing their very own each to take home; sticks were measured and tied together with wool, diamonds were snipped out of card, and each was decorated differently with imaginative drawings. We all love playing and working alongside what the elements give us, and this was a perfect example of embracing life in the moment and having fun!
In the Forest, some tiny mushrooms were spotted with curious eyes on Tuesday, tucked under our see-saw balancing log. This sparked some delightful natural curiosity so prevalent in the children here, so we dug out our nature guides to find its name. Naturally, mushroom themed craft took over the art corner, with necklaces soon being made and shared between friends and kindly gifted to educators and siblings at home.
After an action filled Wednesday afternoon in the forest, tired legs were treated to some relaxation back at the bowling club with some evening bubble yoga. Here, we enjoyed some soothing bird songs on the speaker and explored movement through animal inspired poses, with the “happy hedgehog” being a keen favourite!
The children have also been busy throughout the week exploring clay moulding in the art corner. The squishy, oozy, squelchy texture has been a huge source of delight, and a wide array of creations have been made from pigs to ice cream! We hope some of them made their way home in one piece.
Our very well-loved squirrel and badger puppets joined us during lunchtimes this week, demonstrating using kind words and hands in play. They were certainly looked after with kindness throughout the day, visiting the mud kitchen for a feast and later comforted during their nap time in a lovely bed assembled by logs and leaves.
The children have done marvellously this week in understanding that some educators had to be away for a few days, and they have all enjoyed playing with friendly and fun educators from other Little Forest Folk settings. We know that educators at home have very much missed the children and the great outdoors; we all can’t wait to be back together next week as one big happy Wandsworth Little Forest folk Family again! In the meantime, have a great weekend.
