Wandsworth - Fluttering Butterflies

A shorter newsletter for a shorter week here, but with no less marvellous goings-on, especially when the sun has been so kind to us! Throughout Wednesday, educators were regaled with wonderful eggventures from the Easter weekend; it all sounds like you had a great time hunting and eating chocolate in equal measure! Here in the Forest, the fun continued as one of the children identified rabbit droppings and we imagined that the legendary generous Lepus was “hiding in the bushes”. Children crouched and scoured the bramble undergrowth but alas “they must have gone home to their burrow”.

The stalking luck improved later in the day as adventure walkers had paths crossed by fluttering butterflies. Educators supported children to follow one to where it had landed to rest, and some careful and quiet observations were made as it soaked a few rays before take-off. Back at the bowling club we used a variety of bug identifying books and we believe we saw a “Painted Lady” a “Red Admiral” and a “Comma”. With some early flowers arriving over at the Bowling Field, and our annual wildflower sowing beginning tomorrow, we soon expect this space to be full of these floating friends too.

The suspended falling net is still a huge hit, and we’ve enjoyed seeing the cooperation and friendliness to operate it. Rules have been well listened to over the sessions it’s been hung, and with this great understanding has been some awesome playful fun. Children were particularly excited that they managed to capture James, one of Little Forest Folks co-founders, as he came to say hello to our Wandsworth Little Forest Folk family!

It’s been great to have you back and we can’t wait to see you next week for a more outdoor fun!
