It has been a fantastic start to the new term in the Wimbledon Forest. The children all enjoyed sharing stories of what they got up to in the Easter break including plane journeys, chocolate eggs and seeing family.
Some of our children have been testing out how to move water using different tools and equipment this week. We had a tray set out with cups, pipets and water and the children wanted to see how long it would take to fill up the cups. They filled up the pipets and counted how many times they needed to be filled up before the water reached the brim of the cup. Everyone worked together, encouraging each other to keep going until the water went to the top. The older children helped to count for our younger ones, and this is such a good skill to pass along. As the weather gets warmer, water play is always a favourite in the forest!
There has also been a big trip to the Beech tree forest, the children took their lunch with them and enjoyed a picnic in a new area. The environment at the area that we stopped for play had changed since we had last been there which added to the excitement and exploration. A tree had fallen down over one of the hills which at first made us worry that we could not climb up the hill anymore but in fact the tree supported us in climbing. It is wonderful seeing how easily our little ones can turn the nature around them into resources for play.
We have been loving engaging in different natural art elements this week. In bunnies the children collected mixed mud and water together to make a paint. In foxes we used materials we found in the forest such as leaves and stones to print paint on to paper. The uses of the natural forest around us are endless.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend, see you next week!
