Another fantastic week has gone past in the forest, as we continue to go on as many adventure walks as possible!
The green team have enjoyed exploring the heathland, and seeing all of the different plants it has to offer. They were also lucky enough to be invited into the stables by the park ranger, where we got to say hello to Hector and Scrumpy, the horses! After that, they met the tawny owl, who was a bit shy at first but managed to come out eventually for us all to admire him.
In camp, we enjoyed turn taking on the swing that Simon put up for us, as well as making wheels for vehicles using the bow saw and some deadwood. After the children used the saw safely, they used the pinion drill to drill some holes into their wheels.
The red team also enjoyed sawing, making wooden “cookies” before topping them with “cheese” (sawdust). They also enjoyed looking at the wildflowers on their adventure walks, before embarking on some litter picking to keep the environment nice and tidy.
The educators have been teaching our little explorers new songs this week, with Chloe’s rendition of “happy talk” being a particular favourite. Chloe also bought in some puppets, a frog and a duck, which helped spark some nursery rhymes for the children at circle time.
Furthermore, we have been exploring the wildlife that Wimbledon Common has to offer. We have seen butterflies, bunny rabbits and Ivory snails. We have been showing the Little Forest Folkers how to be as quiet as possible around the wildlife, as that will allow us to get a longer look at them. A particular interest point amongst the group has been expressions. We have been exploring what it’s like to show empathy to others. Both teams continue to make Jamie feel very welcome to the team.
Hope you all have a lovely weekend!
