Twickenham - Firefighters at work!

Little Firefighters were busy this week but luckily it had nothing to do with extinguishing flames or saving cats from trees but it was time to give the fire engine a fresh lick of paint. The children in red camp carried the paints to their pallet engine and made it a wonderful rainbow of colours. Children took responsibility for different areas of the engine and in this way they soon had a bright new vehicle should any fires break out in Twickenham or any cats get stuck up trees.

The red camp have also been supported in making a brand new visual timetable. Images that represent different routines were adorned to little tree cookies and covered with a special glue to make them waterproof. Then it was time to decorate the board that would display the timetable and the children made it look stunning with leaves. They have enjoyed using it with the educators in the morning circle time as a way of making plans for the day and finding security in the daily routine.

Sam supported the red camp use the tools, she helped children practice their whittling skills and they made some funky designs on sticks.

The green group have been using democracy in their circle times this week. Some children have wanted the Willoughby Wallaby Woo song instead of the Hello song so Xiao asked the children to cast votes and the group had to go with the song that has the most votes.

With our children loving some of the Roald Dahl chapter books we have been introducing, this week we have been reading chapters of ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ and the children’s focus has been very impressive. They have also liked Xiao and Linn’s voice for the Grandma!!

The children have been loving the mark making tables and so they were delighted with some gorgeous A2 paper and a range of Oil and chalk pastels, watercolour crayons, pencils and ochre powder paints. The children had free choice over the mediums they used and naturally, it didn’t take long before they were mixing mediums together. One child showed her picture and said “You see the crosses? Well, they are kisses and everything else is just normal!”

Lizzie has been supporting children to use the fire striker this week and seeing if they could make one of the sparks make a piece of cotton wool on a bed of sand catch light. We as adults find this tricky and the amount of perseverance our Little Forest Folk showed to make it happen was amazing! They really took ownership and didn’t let the fails stop them and were so excited when finally one of the sparks took hold.

It has been an exciting week and we hope you have a wonderful weekend!
