Wandsworth - Crafty Rafters

In the midst of a heatwave, the only thing “cool” this week have been the forest activities we have enjoyed!

Educator Luca has begun building a forest raft, he recruited some helpers to help him find some logs and sticks, together they sealed parts of it together with twine, this is an ongoing mission, so we are looking forward to seeing the next steps of this in the coming days!

At our bowling club site, we have enjoyed looking at some of the cinnabar caterpillars that we have found munching away, they are a spectacular black and gold colour, with one child comparing them with bumble bees, calling them “bee caterpillars!”

We have returned to normality this week, it feels good to be back in our shady sanctuary on Wimbledon Common, the overhead canopy really is incomparable during this extended heatwave! We have engaged in lots of water play, making dams to bridge the flow of water in our dinosaur streams, this led to a pebble search which were being compared to “baby dinosaur eggs.”

We wish everyone well during this heatwave and are very much looking forward to the return of those mid-twenty temperatures!
