Morden - Tools, Experiments and Role Play!

This week in the forest, we’ve had fun with tools, experiments and role play!

At the end of last week, the children tried their hand at some fire lighting using the flint and steel rod! This activity challenges the children’s patience, dexterity and resilience. As we continue to practice this skill, our little explorers learn to develop the grip in their hands, the control of their breath when keeping themselves calm and not getting frustrated, and the safety of being near small fires. We were so impressed with the children’s listening, and all of the creative phrases they were using through the activity! “I can’t wait to try my best!” “I saw a puff of smoke, just like a dragon!”

Another one of our favourite activities this week was a lovely role play set up where the children could help the teddy bears use the toilet! We had cardboard toilet seats and little loo rolls, so we could talk through how to keep yourself clean and healthy. There was also a changing area for the bears in case the children decided they needed a new nappy - it was very lovely to see our Little Forest Folk-ers use the phrases that the educators use in the forest! “Let’s come for a try wee teddy bear - you can keep playing afterwards!”

Finally, our ‘independence with personal hygiene’ learning goal for this week was rounded off with a soap vs bacteria activity! Our little adventurers used hand soap and white pepper as a demonstration of how the soap will push away all of the yucky germs that might make us sick, and why this so important after using the bathroom and before we eat. Great job little scientists!
