This week, our focus on life skills has taken us on some exciting and practical learning journeys! We kicked off with a litter-picking adventure, where we learned all about the importance of keeping our environment clean. Our camp was visited by the mischievous Trash Goblin, who "littered" the area with rubbish for us to collect. Our little adventurers became Litter Fairies, using litter pickers and buckets to clean up and sort the rubbish into categories like glass, cardboard, plastic, metal, general waste, and food waste. It was a huge success, and we plan to keep incorporating litter picking more into our forest fun!
In the Putney Forest Toy Shop, the children learned all about transactions and shopping. With cash and card options available, they practised selecting items, adding small numbers, and paying for their purchases. Dinosaurs, walkie-talkies, pipettes, and cuddly Colour Monsters were just some of the delightful items picked up by our little shoppers. For those who changed their minds, we even had refunds—allowing them to revisit the store for another go!
We hosted a delightful silver service dinner party in our camp. Our budding chefs used clay and cookie cutters to craft sweet treats shaped like stars, hearts, and circles. They then practised holding knives and forks, cutting on colourful plates, and serving up delicious pretend meals. Menu planning was another highlight, as the children learned more about starters, mains, and desserts, and designed their own menus filled with their favourite foods.
It’s been a fantastic week of practical skills, and we have a lot of fun in our beautiful environment. Have a lovely weekend everyone!
