Twickenham - Autumn Whispers!

The autumn leaves from our tall and glorious plane tree are starting to turn and change colour, as they fall, the children run to try and catch them. The last of the insects are still crawling about but we are watching them spin webs, crawl under logs and stones and start to disappear from the forest. We are learning about autumn and starting the day warmly dressed, but as the day warms up we race around in the golden sunshine, glueing with fallen leaves and creating nature pictures, as well as observing the last ladybirds of the season.

Understanding the world around us has taught us about types of mushrooms that are popping up through the grass and leaves in the cooler damp weather. We have been learning the names of some of our trees like the Ash and the Silver Birch, and named and counted the birds we have seen through the week. Our emerald green parakeets, cheeky robins and talkative magpies are regular visitors to our space. The mischievous squirrels have been trying to raid our lunch time rubbish bin, but we have a plan in place to discourage that type of behaviour.

Our spooky season has started, as witches’ hats and capes have come out of our dressing up box, cobwebs made of muslin are hung around our play area, and the fog crept in one day creating a completely new environment, while muffling our sounds and limiting our visibility.

Painting, printing, cooking and stirring, and science and swinging have filled our days. What a wonderful week it has been!
