Fulham - Leaf Fairies!

Happy 8th birthday Little Forest Folk Fulham! 🍂🐌 What a wonderful year we’ve had in the forest; we are so grateful to experience another year in such a wonderful setting with the best little ones, supporting their connection with the great outdoors.

Leaf Fairies 🧚‍♀️

We’ve used the wide variety of colourful autumnal leaves for all sorts of fun crafts this week. We particularly loved our leaf fairies, which are a Little Forest Folk-er favourite. We’ve had plenty of leaf hunts with different goals…who can find the spikiest leaf? Can we find different shades of red, orangey reds or deep purpley reds? Can we find leaves with all different colours? We then let them dry out before using them to make paint prints or attaching them to lolly sticks as interesting wings and faces.

Mushroom Hunting 🍄

After spotting lots of new mushrooms popping up around the palace grounds, it was a great opportunity to take our mushroom identification sheets and get hunting! We found such an array of sizes, shapes and colours in all different spots around the grounds- finding some fab clusters of mushrooms in the Nature Playground on a damp log. We found a collection of mushrooms in a perfect circle, and some quick research told us this is said to signify a fairy ring, which the children thought was completely magical!

Working at the Carwash 🚗

We followed the lead of the children and took inspiration from their interests. Our little explorers were loving using our hand towels to soak in water and wipe down some of the muddy pallets... which gave us an idea... a car wash! So, the following day we created a car wash set up with pallets and old tires, even a steering wheel and seats! We popped on 🎶’Working at the Carwash’ and ‘9 to 5’ and our little adventurers mixed soap and water in big buckets. They used dishcloths, brooms and dusters to clean the sides of the car… the pallets looked squeaky clean!

Pots and Pans 🧼

Due to how popular the car wash activity was, we continued with a similar idea the following day. We set up our mud kitchen to mirror a house with separate rooms. One room was a beautifully muddy kitchen, equipped with pots and pans which were full of mud! Our Little Forest Folk-ers role played a kitchen experience with some dishwashing and tidying, stacking and sorting through cups and utensils!

Bark Rubbing 🪵

As well as hunting for mushrooms, we also explored the forest hoping to find trees with interesting textures. We set out with paper and crayons/chalks, to find bark with varying patterns to attempt some bark rubbings. Children discovered all sorts of trees and discussed their characteristics excitedly. We had some gorgeous artistic outcomes!
