Morden - "This Leaf Gives Me My Powers!"

This week in the Morden forest we embraced the chill and enjoyed lots of fun wintery activities!

The explorers have been extremely interested with how the weather affects and changes out environment, so venturing our to see the frozen ice and frosty plants in the morning has been very interesting for us! Using a frozen tray of ice as a setting for our small world has been a crowd favourite, it has been used for ‘ice skating’ & even a ‘frozen castle’!

One of our favourite crafting activities this week has been making nature necklaces from the fallen leaves. The children used their fine motor skills to make very small holes in the leaves, to then thread the twine through. Lots of detail went into crafting these, the children talked about the placement of the hole, and how big it should be without breaking the leaf too much. Everyone was so excited to show off their creations, and they played a big part in their imaginative role play for the rest of the day “this leaf gives me my powers!”

Our balancing courses are always a crowd favourite! The children take their time to keep themselves and their friends steady, teaching them patience and agility while working together as a team to get everyone across to the other side safely. The children will experiment and move parts around to make the courses more manageable or more challenging depending on which friends they’re playing with, it’s always amazing to see the level of courtesy our children show when playing!
