Morden - The Magic Of Disco!

This week in the forest we’ve been exploring the magic of Disco! Our Little Forest Folk-ers certainly love to boogie and this has been the perfect opportunity to hone our letter recognition skills. The children worked together to paint a pallet in colourful squares. The squares were covered in tape and when the tape was removed, they could see letters revealed! The little ones loved picking out their familiar letters “That’s my one!” “M is for mummy.” Once the letters had been carefully painted over in shiny disco paint the dance floor was ready to go!

The next step has been to collect our favourite songs from the forest. There are too many to count but some standouts are “The Continents Song,” “Hot Potato,” “What Does the Fox Say,” and “Johnny Be Good.” We are primed for a disco party next week when we can get our little adventurers moving and doing some active literacy and letter recognition.

The children have also been hunting out letters around the forest on letter hunts and going letter fishing. The forest is such a wonderful place to kick start those early reading skills for children who are active learners.

And for the younger ones, we’ve very much enjoyed doing lots of phase 1 phonics by making our own instruments and going on an exciting story walk around the forest. The little ones picked out precious gems for their shakers and made sure to make lots of noise whenever they heard the sound ssssss. This has also been a theme in messy play where the children made slippery slime and loved thinking about all the other words that start with the s sound.

So long everyone, have a great weekend!
