Morden - Soap Science!

This week the children jumped in with a cool science experiment to see how important it is to use soap when we wash our hands! The children joined Maria to sprinkle a little bit of black pepper in a small bowl of water, “It’s little and it floats! It looks like a small carpet on the top!” They spoke about how the pepper is acting as the germs on our hands, “The germs are invisible! That’s why we can’t see them!”

The children used their strong hands to pump some soap from the bottle into the bowl of water and pepper and watched as the pepper reacted against the soap by jumping to the edges of the bowl! The children loved seeing this reaction “Wow! Look at that! The soap pushed them away!”.

We then discussed with the children that the germs on our hands react the same way to the soap when we wash our hands, and ‘run down the drain with the water’. The children independently went straight away to wash their hands excitedly! “Bye bye germs!”. We can’t wait to share more practical science experiments with the children!
