Morden - Science, Sunshine & Planting Seeds!

This week in the forest we’ve been getting involved with some science experiments, which have been engaging our Little Forest Folk-ers curiosity, learning and imagination!

One of our favourite activities this week has been an experience to watch how colours mix and blend together! Lucia led a great experiment where the children could see how food colouring would blend together and react with different materials, like oil, shaving foam and soap! The children loved using descriptive language to describe what they were seeing, as the colours dripped and floated around the materials!

The beautiful sunshine has been bringing out all the wonderful plants and wildlife we’ve been caring for in our space! Our Little Forest Folk-ers got involved with some planting of wildflower seeds in our growing beds in the back of the forest. We had a wonderful time talking about all of the animals which will be coming to visit the space because of all our beautiful new plants! “the bees will be so happy to see the flowers!”

Another fabulous experiment we enjoyed this week has been watching reactions between baking soda and vinegar! After our cool volcano experiment last week, we wanted to see what else we could do with this reaction. Caitlin led a great activity where releasing gas made a glove wave in the air! The children loved watching the glove fill with gas and asked lots of interesting questions. They used their measuring skills, counting skills and patience to set up the activity themselves, and we can’t wait to get more experiments like this in the forest in future!

Another wonderful week, we hope everyone has a fun and restful long weekend!
