What a fabulous round up to a whirlwind of a two weeks! The holiday camp period is a magical time for new connections, new ideas and new perspectives on our forest environment. We love how campers bring their experiences from their nursery/school settings and integrate it into our play sessions.
We love all holidays in the forest, especially holidays that coincide with the coming of spring! 🐣🌸🌼🌷Of course, inspired by this, we wanted to do an Easter egg hunt! 🐰What better way to check out our beautiful natural surroundings than hunting for eggs? 🥚 We foraged in the long grass, 🌱and sieved through fallen blossoms. 🌸 We are a chocolate-free camp, 🫸🍫 and so we got creative and searched for letters instead. Each egg had a letter which spelt out a mystery phrase! All the kids did an amazing job at hunting 🔎… and some of our older holiday campers helped to piece together the mystery phrase! It was the perfect opportunity for teamwork! After some serious decoding, our little ones successfully spelt out the mystery phrase. 🤫
We love doing loose part play in the forest and so, of course, we wanted to share the fun with our holiday camper friends! 🧱🔩🧹🪵Loose part play is all about creativity and resourcefulness! Educators lay out a number of objects and the children take it from there! It is great for their creativity, but also communication! One pipe was certainly a two-friend carrying job… although one of our little ones gave it his best whack! ⚡️✨
Every day we have had new holiday campers join us! 😎 With that in mind, we wanted to do a second day of egg hunting so that more friends could enjoy the Easter fun! To keep it fresh for our full timers, we had a special puzzle themed hunt - it was a tricky one and it took some trial and error to find the solution! 🧩 The children searched for pieces of cracked egg! Once all the puzzle pieces were found, they worked together to put the puzzle together. It was a little tricky 🤔 but luckily our Little Forest Folk-ers had resilience, hard work and team work on their side! 🪺⏲️
On Wednesday, we had a beautiful day! We had blue sky and fluffy cumulus clouds. We took full advantage of the conditions and did some cloud gazing! ☁️🌥️ It was the perfect activity for the weather, and the perfect activity for our intent for the week, ‘describing what we see, hear and feel whilst outside.’ We saw lots of bunnies (unsurprisingly)…and a rogue rhino 🦏!
Finally, we had a week filled with craft, from painting everything blue (very Yves Klein), to lots of clay sculpting (making nests, 🪹 Easter eggs 🪺 and one snow man…who was slightly out of season!) We mixed colours, got messy and had a great time! When we weren’t crafting, we were playing Duck, Duck, Goose! 🦆 🦆 🪿, we were all egg-static, you could say the week exceeded our egg-spectations! So much so, that all that’s left to say is…Happy Easter! Which, not so coincidentally, was our mystery phrase!! 🐣🪺
We hope everyone has a wonderful long weekend!
