On a search for Spider Webs!
The children have been so interested in the details of our forest space recently, and how the space is changing now that we're moving towards the end of the summer! The children have really enjoyed going on 'spiderweb hunts' through our forest's 'jungle path'. We bring torches with us to look in the dark parts of the trail, and we try to spot the spiders hiding under the leaves. The children were so interested in the detail in their environment, it was amazing to see them so immersed in the forest and the creatures in it! We can't wait for the leaves to start turning orange so we can see our beautiful forest in a whole new way!
We've been really enjoying our circle times in the forest; before snack we talk through our 'forest rules', sing some songs together, and spark some conversations! We use hay bales, logs, and crates to sit on in our circle, and after we're finished sitting on them, the circle turns into a brand-new balance course! The children take it in turns to test how quickly they can make it round the circle, hopping from log to log, and waiting patiently behind their friends if they need a little time to steady themselves. It's been great to see the children find so much fun in a way we didn't expect they would!
The children absolutely loved the new play resources that were introduced this week, we've been calling them 'coloured light blocks'; building blocks with see-through coloured plastic through the middle. The children have really loved using these resources in their play; some children have been stacking them together to make 'buildings', experimenting with how tall they can make their tower, and looking at the coloured light shining through the shadow in the ground. Whereas other children have been using them while on their adventures, looking through the plastic to turn their surroundings into a whole new colour! We can't wait to see what other ways the children use them in their play!
There has also been lots of play focused on our wooden letters and numbers, using them to find letters in our names, or playing eye-spy with things we can see in the forest! The children also enjoyed playing at the picnic tables with numbers spread around, finding the numbers in order while counting out loud. We've noticed that the children have been using lots more numbers in their play because of this, both while in conversation with educators, and while expanding their imaginative play!
We hope you all have had a wonderful week too, we cannot wait to see what next week brings!
