Morden - New Year in the Forest!

New Year in the Forest!

We’ve been so happy to see all our friends return to the forest after Christmas this week! All the children and educators were super excited to see all the faces we haven’t seen in a while, and we had lovely long chats about all the cool things we got as presents, and all the yummy food we ate! We have been using our mark making skills to draw some pictures of what we’ve been up to over the Christmas breaks, there were lots of lovely drawings of family members, Christmas dinner plates, and family pets!

As we’ve been seeing some chilly mornings this week, we’ve really enjoyed spending lots of time at the fire circle each morning, making up stories, singing songs and playing games. Last term, the children started to learn how to make their own sparks using the flint lighters, which we’re really excited to continue! Since then, the children have shown lots more interest in the detail of how the fire is built, how much wood we need, and how to collect the best types of sticks for the fire! It’s been brilliant to see their interest grow, and to see everyone lend a hand to make the fire to cook our hot chocolate!

Another big point of interest for the children at Morden at the moment is talking about outer space and the planets! There has been loads of imaginative play around hopping on a spaceship and jetting off to another planet! They use their counting to do a big countdown until their blast off! We sing songs about flying on the spaceship, and we’ve loves checking out the planets poster to see which planet we will fly to next!

That’s it for this short week, we’ll see you all again next week!
