Morden - Harvesting Runner Beans & Mushroom Adventure Walks

It’s been a beautifully sunny week within the forest! Many of our learners are building relations and learning new ways to communicate with each other to share, invite to play and express boundaries. “How many minutes until my turn?” “Would you like to play with me?”

We have enjoyed the garden, planting with Vicky, harvesting our runner beans and cutting back tomatoes. We have used scissors to snip stems of tomato plants and recycle in our compost bin to grow more tomatoes in the future. This has been great for our Little Forest Folk-ers to communicate with each other and express their ideas whilst strengthening their hands and caring for our forest. Many have a sense of ownership from watering, weeding and harvesting our gardens.

We have enjoyed describing and acknowledging what to expect in Autumn! Maria set out sensory trays which highlighted the effects and celebrations within Autumn. Many of our little ones grouped together, worked on sharing and finding common interests. “ I like this colour red!” We used tweezers and worked our grip to pick up small objects such as rice and gems.

We have been hands-on using a manual drill to create holes within soft wood. This practice helps our little explorers to become familiar with the use of tools and how to prepare and be safe around them. Wearing our gloves and with support from an educator, we turn the handle to rotate the drill and push through the wood. “My muscles are so big!”

We have also been lucky to enjoy an adventure walk this week! Here we walked up to the common with a group, holding on to a rope to stay together. This is so valuable as we can learn to be safe as well as what we can discover in nature. On this walk everyone was excited to find “Pink mushrooms and baby mushrooms!”

We hope you have a lovely weekend and we will see you next week!
