Forest Artwork!
We’ve had a very artistic and creative time in the forest this week! The children have jumped into many different activities using lots of artistic mediums to decorate our space and make things they’re really proud of! One of the big projects that lots of the children worked on together was our big Little Forest Folk sign! We had lots of lovely cardboard to get creative on and added more and more aspects to the sign each time the children wanted to re-join the activity. The children laid out lots of colours for the base, then layers of stencils and letter shapes over the top. It was great to have a big group project that the children really enjoyed coming back and adding more to! The sign will have pride of place at the front of the forest!
We had some brand-new tires delivered to the forest this week, which sparked lots of imaginative play and climbing with the children. The children started by building their own ramps with the logs and planks of wood, to see how fast the big tires would roll down. After a while, this game turned into building the biggest tire tower they could, and then using their balancing skills to see how high they could climb it! After that, the children began to build their own trucks and cars to ‘drive to the beach’!
One of the artistic activities we’ve been interested in has been making more group posters; one of which was focused on the solar system. The children have been loving space play recently, and love to talk about which planet we are going to visit next. The children helped the practitioner to remember the order of the planets in our solar system and suggested other things to include ‘asteroids’ and ‘space dust!’ The children then used chalks to add their own ‘spaceships’ and ‘stars’ to the drawing and drew lines to represent the spaceships ‘crashing into the moon!’
We’ve had lots of different weather this week! On the days when it’s been a little sunnier, we did some more planting and watering to make sure our forest space is looking as beautiful as possible for the coming spring! We’ve been planting poppies, sunflowers, and wildflowers which are apparently a favourite of the bumble bees! We’ll let you know if the bees like the wildflowers more! The children put so much care into looking after our space and remind each other of the forest rules of being ‘kind and gentle!’ to the plants and animals that visit! We’re so excited to see how our environment looks when the seeds start to sprout!
