Morden - Ducklings!

This week has been one of the most anticipated so far this year as we had the arrival of our five duckling eggs on Monday. Our explorers were very excited and eager to see them. Some were a bit confused as to why they were in an incubator and had some questions like 'why haven’t they hatched yet?' or 'what are they inside?' which gave us the opportunity to talk and explain what the incubator does to help the ducklings grow. The entire experience from the duck eggs arriving to watching small chips and cracks appearing on the eggs was very exciting for everyone.

By Wednesday morning, one of the ducklings had hatched and was waiting for us to place them in their cage. They were very wobbly at first but super sociable and eager to be held and cuddled. By Thursday lunchtime all the ducklings had hatched and had been welcomed by all of the children that had been waiting for them. Each duckling has its own personality; one is more delicate and gentler than the others and then there are a couple with much more outgoing traits.

We had some very special moments that day, all the children sitting in small circles and getting the chance to hold one of the ducklings. Our little explorers used their wonderful kind and gentle hands and made sure to use their quiet voices. Seeing the children’s smiles grow and eyes widen when they first hold the fluffy yellow ducklings is irreplaceable and it has been such a memorable experience for all our adventurers.

What a wonderful, wholesome week – we hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
