Crocodile dentists!
We’ve had a lovely week of creative play and activities at our Morden forest! One morning, the children discovered some crocodiles who needed help to look after their teeth! The crocodiles were made of two crates tied together, with big cardboard teeth which needed some care and brushing! We spoke about which foods would be best to help the crocodile have nice healthy teeth, and the Little Forest Folk-ers went to find them around the forest - ‘A apple is good for him!’.
Throughout the day, we like to offer the children chances to come to a quieter part of the forest, to experiment with some new activities we haven’t tried before. We’ve really enjoyed using some new resources which introduce more maths skills, and games like Dominos so the children can find matching patterns and talk about ‘mirror’ images while matching up the dots! We’ve also used some resources using coloured sticks and number tiles to have a look at how sums are constructed and trying some addition sums of our own!
Construction is always a big part of play in the forest, using all kinds of materials which we find. This week, the children have all loved creating ‘train tracks’ in different areas, sizes and styles. The children have been creating tracks along the paths of the forest, using long branches and logs, and encouraging their friends to help them with their building, and to join them on their train journeys! “We’re nearly at the beach!”
We’ve also got a really great new play space for the children to travel to on the ‘train’; we have a brand-new little house at the front of our forest! It’s been so lovely to see all the great play ideas the children have in this new space, “Come to our holiday house!”, “Shhh, go back to sleep, Santa will be here soon!”
For our Friday cooking activity last week, we had a really special recipe which we were all so excited about… Pizza! Our chefs used their brilliant cooking skills to roll out the dough base, squish up some tomatoes, and help to build the fire which cooked the pepper and pineapple pizzas. They were really tasty, and as per usual, we had some chats about the children’s favourite ingredients to try, what we can add to the pizza next time to make it even yummier!
We hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
