To start our week at Morden, the children continued with an activity we started last week, where we were creating our bug village! We had collected lots of our natural wooden building blocks and found the perfect place near our circle area to set things up! The children used little sticks to create roads for the houses to sit on! We used PVA glue to attach stones and sticks to decorate the roofs, make little windows and doors, and paint the bug houses different colours! We spoke about what each building was going to be: "This is the police station", "This is the nursery!". It was really lovely to hear the children's ideas and talk about the places that are important to them!
We had a 'swing ball' activity set up in the forest this week! The children really enjoyed testing their catching and throwing skills with their friends, and it sparked conversation around what favourite sports the children had seen while the Olympics were on! It's been lovely to offer the children sporty activities recently, encouraging them to work in a team and use their communication skills. The Holiday Campers had been loving throwing bean bags into a large bucket that has been tied up on the fence, to practice their aim, and how impressive their trick shots are!
Our favourite activity of the last few weeks has been working on creating our Vol-clay-no! The children love to talk about what they will add to it next, and we like to look at pictures of what it looked like the last time we worked on it to see the progress. This week we have been painting the volcano, using lots of different bright colours to make it "so beautiful!" Both the full day group and the Holiday Campers really enjoyed this activity, and we even had our eruption with vinegar and baking powder! The children found it super exciting watching the reaction happen, and we can't wait to try again to see if we can make the eruption even bigger!
We hope you all have wonderful weekends!
