This week in the forest has been so magical and varied with all the different elements of forest school coming into play.
First off, the changing seasons have definitely led our focus this week. Our lovely eco-school leads worked with the children to make a planting calendar which will be our map for the rest of the year.
And speaking of maps, our curriculum focus has also driven our play this week as we’ve spent time thinking about countries from around the world. Children chose their dream destinations on a map of the world and with a bit of tool work they hammered in pins and strung yarn between them to show their journey.
We are always considering our third educator here at Morden too, our environment! Our practitioners have been so creative this week setting up exciting invitations for our little explorers to discover, building cities from around the world, creating some of the world’s most magnificent rivers and cooking delicious cuisine in the mud kitchen.
Then there’s the children’s interests which is one of our main guides. As we’ve been seeing a lot of Frozen roleplays our adventurers were invited to do some snowflake screen printing. The results were beautiful and the children have been so proud of their creations!
And finally, of course we have the weather which threw us a curveball at the end of the week... So what did we do in all that rain? Gave our forest a good clean of course! While collecting water from the world’s biggest muddy puddle.
What a week it’s been. But really, with all these aspects to inspire our curiosity, playfulness and creativity, every week is magical.
