This week we’ve been enjoying lots of al fresco dining! To encourage our little ones with their independent eating we have been using knives and forks in lots of interesting ways, from scooping and cutting to painting and role-play.
We started off the week with a challenge. Charlotte made a tray of gloopy rainbow oobleck for dinner. The adventurers helped swirl all the colours together with their forks and when it was time, they scooped it into their bowls. Using the forks for this was very tricky and we had to use some different techniques. We did decide to go and grab some spoons to serve it up at the table though!
Later in the week it was time for fun with salt dough. Our lovely Robyn helped the children design their very own leaf ornaments. After choosing a leaf, the children pressed it down onto their salt dough and carefully cut around it with the knife to get the right shape. This was such a great activity to work on the children’s grip and precision.
The Little Forest Folk-ers have also been having a fabulous time developing their own independence and awareness of different tools and how they can be used. We worked together to create a volcano with the children using spades and bowls to move sand into place and create a slope. We also had a lovely time with our glue and scissors, using the different glue sticks and brushes to apply the glue to our cuttings for some gorgeous animal collages.
It’s always so amazing to see our little adventurers get creative. We can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
