Morden - A Wonderful Wintery Week!

Winter is coming and hats and gloves season is truly upon us! This week we’ve seen our little ones adapt to the cold temperatures like pros, learning quickly the value of their hats and gloves. In the forest we have been talking about moving our bodies to keep them warm, going for walks and marching to keep our feet toastie in their boots, and rubbing our hands together when they get chilly in their gloves.

Our forest has become a winter wonderland, full of icy decorations that sparkle in the sunlight. There are all sorts of surprises trapped in the ice to discover. The little adventurers found lots of ways to free the golden leaves from the ice. We have all been having lots of discussions about how the wildlife in our forest can cope with the changes and the cold.

With this in mind, we went on our first winter adventure walk! The little ones sang and chatted all the way to Cannon Hill Common, eager to see if the local ducks were okay and hadn’t been frozen in place from the icy conditions. Luckily the coots, moorhens, mallards and canada geese were all happy and free, enjoying the beautiful winter sunshine. We followed up our visit with a winter picnic, and an energetic race back over the grass and a careful march along the pavement all the way back to forest school.

A wonderful wintery week, we hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
