Fulham - We're Music Mad!

Winter has definitely arrived here at Fulham Palace! We’ve had a big shift in weather with some lower temperatures, even the arrival of some light snow and sleet- which has meant woolly hats, gloves and thermal layers have been must haves for the forest day!🧣🧤

Children have been super excited to explore the wonders of the Winter season, crunching through the icy grass, checking if the water fountain has frozen (it finally has!) and trying to catch the small morning snow fall in their palms that we had this Wednesday. We have kept ourselves toasty with some babyccinos (warm milk), adventure walks to keep our bodies moving, and lots of active games. With the ever-changing weather and clothing requirements, we are consistently impressed with the resilience and adaptability of our little ones. Particularly, they have been showing such mature independence with dressing/undressing and navigating their own needs- for example “which pair of gloves would keep my hands clean and dry in the mud kitchen? 💭”, before retrieving waterproof gloves from their bag, rather than wool. ❄️

A Walk Through the Palace’s History 🐈‍⬛

We took an afternoon to wander around the inside of the palace, visiting the main halls which were full of wonderful old paintings and visiting the chapel. Our little adventurers loved the mosaic wall and the vibrant stained-glass features! In one room of the palace there played a projected film which was a montage of shots from around the grounds. Our Little Forest Folk-ers got comfy on the bean bags and watched the familiar images change. They excitedly expressed what they could see!

We’re Music Mad 🎶 🥁

Our theme for this week has been music and early phonological awareness- particularly rhythm, percussion instruments and classic nursery rhymes. It’s been exciting to bring nursery rhymes to life by creating set ups in their inspiration. All aboard the “Wheels on the Bus” where we had an interactive sing song session, acting out the doors opening and shutting, finding the bell and the horn to beep and ring and the window wipers swish swishing.

Maze 🍁

On our adventures, we frequently visit the garden maze which has wonderful bushy pathways with an array of plants and flowers. Children were loving winding and hiding through the paths so we thought we would bring the same fun to camp. Sabrina created a fab maze out of crates and pallets, and our little explorers ran and zig-zagged through the paths.

The New Greenhouse 🪴

Pete the gardener took us to see the newest addition to the gardeners’ huts- a brand-new greenhouse! Our Little Forest Folk-ers loved how toasty and warm it was inside and headed in to see the treasures. Many potted plants had just sprouted their first stem. 🌱

Humpty Dumpty Eggs 🥚

We put a twist on one of our all-time favourite children’s tunes, Humpty Dumpty, and thought we could do our very own reenactment of the story. We repurposed some newspaper and moulded it to be a similar shape to a boiled egg. We then covered our eggs with glue and used our cutting and tearing motions to create small pieces of colourful tissue paper and card. Children created their own collages/mosaics until they were happy with their eggs. We then balanced them together on a log and sang the tune as the eggs rolled and tumbled! 🪺

Another wonderful week in the Fulham forest, we can’t wait for more adventures next week!
