Fulham - Weather discussions

There have been many discussions happening this week as the children made observations about all the different types of weather we have experienced in the forest.

During our clear out in preparation for reopening our indoor space September we unearthed a kite from a forgotten corner of the office space. What perfect timing for this windy week we’re having! The children took turns to grip the handle tight before sprinting as fast as they could to lift our beautiful dragon high in the sky. It was a great opportunity for practicing perseverance because the end result was so exciting and it was lovely to hear the children shout encouragement to each other “keep going! It’s almost up!”.

We had some beautiful rain this week and the forest smelled alive again as the soil and leaves soaked up the moisture. The mud was dark and sticky and perfectly soft for digging and, of course, we had the glorious return of PUDDLES!!

The children helped to construct a teepee structure with tall sticks and ropes and we used it all through the week; sometimes with a tarp to make a tent and sometimes to hang pots from to play at cooking over a fire!
We gathered branches and sticks and made use of the cable reels as foundations to start building a police house. They worked together to discuss where pieces needed to go and decisions about door and window placement were made. On the other side of camp another construction was underway to build a giant pirate ship. A galley was added to feed the hungry pirates and tarps were hung diagonally to catch the wind and create a really realistic sail.

As we reach the end of summer camp, we are saying goodbye to the last of our friends who are making their exciting move to Big School. We wish them well and know that their beautiful brains are going to love all the fantastic learning ahead of them this year!

Our new starters have settled so beautifully and we are so excited to welcome the rest of our new friends as well as familiar faces next week for the new term!
