his week in the forest, our children have been exploring the sound of musical instruments and playing all sorts of melodies and rhythms. The xylophone is always a favourite, echoing all over the forest, along with bells’ chimes and abstract percussion adding a rock n’ roll feeling! Sharing instruments and taking turns is not always easy, but our little musicians were amazing using their words to negotiate and experiment between themselves.
We went on adventure walks to the natural playground every morning, where the children skilfully walked on the slippery logs with confidence, assessing each step to make sure they wouldn’t fall! They loved rolling downhill, covered in leaves and dirt, having such a good time that all we could hear was their laughter! Our little adventurers have been challenging themselves, climbing to the biggest logs and jumping from the tallest towers landing in great style.
In the forest, the children have been experimenting with colours using chalk to decorate the frames we set up in the morning. They mixed different colour chalks, made ‘snow’ and blew the chalk powder which travelled all around in the wind! With the occasional showers of rain, the children hid inside their den to take cover, whispering and giggling through the pallets gaps. Outside the den they had a big branch which then became a telescope to see as far as Germany!
Mark making and patterns with clay were really popular this week as well. Our Little Forest Folk-ers made paper planes and drew buttons on them which could turn on and off different functions and super powers! They rolled and squashed, and amazing creations were made out of clay! The children used different tools to make patterns in the clay burgers, biscuits and scary silly monsters!
The obstacle courses have been so stimulating and challenging for our children and they absolutely love navigating their way to complete them! These tracks, usually inspire the children to come up with the most amazing narratives and imaginative play! They were warriors climbing the highest mountains and walking on ‘dangerous’ bridges with lava or ice underneath!
We had the wonderful Emma taking pictures to some of the children this week and the children were super excited about it! They were so helpful and had such a great time with Emma and her camera with robots, kangaroos and monkeys inside! We hope you too had a fabulous week!
Have a great weekend!
