Fulham - Loose Parts Fun!

Goodbye amazing holiday campers, it’s been an honour to support your forest fun for the summer. We’ve witnessed some fantastic friendships and watched your confidence grow each day. We hope to see you all returning at our next camp! We now look forward to welcoming back our term-time children, who we have dearly missed over this long summer break. We can’t wait to see how much you’ve grown!

Loose Parts
This week we’ve put a particular emphasis on the endless opportunities that the addition of ‘loose parts’ on camp brings. Loose parts refers to a forest school technique where found objects of varying uses are present on camp - with the intention that children will create, build, imagine and explore with the objects. What our little ones do so fantastically, is look at an object and see it for something much greater. For example, this isn’t just sloppy mud I’m mixing, but instead a lemon drizzle cake mix ready to be put into a baking tin. This week we have seen plenty of creations using old tires, tree stumps, pipes, logs and wooden planks- including wonderful creations like transport, an oven, animal slides and water fountains. Loose parts gives children an opportunity to take risks within their play, both mentally and physically. They can stretch their imaginations wide to consider the many creative avenues a singular object can hold, as-well as challenging their strengths and coordination when lifting heavy objects. We’ve watched children run into construction issues, where they then use their thinking caps to problem solve and to discover solutions- ‘What if I placed the heavier one at the bottom?’ ‘What can I use for an oven handle?’ Something we definitely do not lack at an outdoor setting is creativity and imagination, and it’s wonderful to watch this exude from the children with each activity they set out to do! Fabulous job Little Forest Folk-ers!
