Fulham - Little Forest Folk Animal Sanctuary!

With a particular focus on the ‘Understanding the World’ stage of development, we have named this week ‘Occupation Week’. We have explored a large array of ‘jobs’ and discussed what we think our parents/guardians’ occupations are. There were some fantastic roleplay areas set up throughout the week, where children could explore many different exciting workplaces.

Doctors 🏥🩺🩹

We started the day with the fantastic story of ‘Zog and the Flying Doctors’, which has an inspiring message about a wonderful princess who proves to her grumpy Uncle that she is so much more than just a princess, and actually a caring and talented doctor who’s ready to care for the kingdom. We built a climbing frame topped with Zog the Dragon, so our little explorers could climb the laddered crate and ride the flying dragon to any civilians needing some medical care. They used our doctors’ toys to take each other’s temperature, check heartbeats, bandage up arms and legs and administer medicine. They would all be fantastic and attentive doctors!

Detectives / Investigators 🚔🪪✒️

Some shady business took place on camp on Tuesday!🕵️‍♂️ We started the day exploring what a detective or an investigator was; someone who’s a fab puzzle and problem solver! We gave each child a name tag and asked them to choose their secret identity. Using some face paint each child could choose if they wanted a beard, moustache or glasses painted on to help their secret disguises. Whilst our little detectives were on an adventure, Jemima rampaged the camp, stealing all the water bottles and plastic fruit from our shop set up. The children returned to camp to a very interesting crime scene, all taped off with caution tape! Using magnifying glasses and their wonderful problem-solving brains, they hunted around camp in their disguises searching for the stolen goods and the perpetrator! All was discovered and the detectives got to the bottom of cheeky Jemima’s tricks!

Firefighters 🔥🚒♨️

Children arrived at camp on Wednesday to find a fire truck created out of crates, fit with water pipes, walkie talkies, firefighter hats and buckets of water. Then disaster struck! A nice, toasty ‘fire’ had been set up under our tipi, but after being unattended it must have got out of hand …fire crew to the rescue! Our Little Forest Folk-ers used large piping to create a water stream which ran from the fire truck to the pit of the ‘fire’, and they ran back and forth from the large water bucket to pour the water down the pipe stream. ‘Fire’ out guys- all in a good day’s work!

(Please be assured that this activity was all role play- and no real fire on camp!)

Animal Sanctuary Carers 🦒🐘🥼

On Thursday, we had the most fab animal sanctuary set up, with two big cardboard animals who were sadly quite poorly. They were taken into the shelter to be tended to by their great carers. Our little adventurers learnt all about the different things that different animals eat, and carefully chose from the food items that we’d provided to make sure they fed the animals something they’d find super yummy! 🍎
