We’ve officially waved goodbye to summertime... hello Autumn!
The changes in the weather and the environment have been discussed greatly in the past week. What will happen to the flower garden once the weather gets colder? What’s different about the leaves in Autumn? Our Little Forest Folk-ers have been loving describing the physical and visual characteristics of the seasons, and spotted lots of clues that we’ve made our way into Autumn. One great benefit of these wet mornings is the arrival of some slimy and wriggly friends... worms, snails and slugs - our little ones are completely obsessed! Most morning walks to camp have included a hunt for as many of these bugs we can find. Our little explorers have displayed their usual kindness and consideration for the animals around them, by picking them up from the path and placing them in the grass, so ‘they don’t get stepped on and squashed’.
This week we’ve played with some new resources, large versions of the classic games dominoes and noughts and crosses! The children have been loving matching up the pairs of dots/numbers, whilst working on their pairing and counting abilities. We saw lots of strategic and logical thinking in our games of noughts and crosses too, and children who had mastered the game were brilliant at supporting their peers on their turn.
We followed the children’s interest of ‘The Floor is Lava’ and decided to make an assault course with a similar concept, which we called the Ring of Fire. Our little adventurers had to work their bodies through different sized hula hoops, avoiding touching the hoop as it was of course made from ‘hot fiery lava!’ Children had to work on their body coordination and their tactical movements, crouching down and taking small shuffles forward with their feet. It was fab to watch them do his repeatedly, motivated to get through both, without touching the ring!
