Chiswick - Water fights and bittersweet goodbyes

Water fights and bittersweet goodbyes

Summer truly is in full swing and it’s making us feel like we’re on holiday abroad. Being outdoors is to our advantage more than ever, with the trees providing a cooling shelter. If we feel in the mood to bask in the sun or have to dry up after our recurring water splash fights, we have the best logs perfectly positioned where the sun peeks through - if we close our eyes and stay really quiet, we can almost hear the waves of the ocean.

This week, our Little Forest Folk-ers turned into pirates and magical lions. They ran around our forest and savanna, spreading their smiles and laughter to those around them. Our inquisitive adventurers learnt about different eco systems and biomes, trying to figure out why we’re not in the desert - infinitive sand for sandcastles sounds all kinds of amazing! We did however conclude that the forest is a very good place to spend our days in, and we can build sandcastles at the beach.

With the nature around us constantly changing, we went for a mini adventure walk to see what changes we could spot, and we saw so many berries! We have Rowan trees all around our camp that we haven’t spotted before. Their berries grow in clusters which meant that we could pick up (only the ones that had already fallen down of course and abiding by our ‘no picking and no licking rule’), to use for mud pies and fairy juice. Whilst spying for berries down low and up high, some of our adventures with hawk eyes spotted a teddy bear in a tree that we named Rowey, after the Rowan tree. We wanted to bring him back to forest school, but as he doesn’t belong to us, he became a symbolic mascot that we now include in our ‘Good Morning’ song.

We have yet again channelled our inner artists, this time by ice skating on large scale paintings and having giant paper strung up between trees. We’re mixing and discovering new colours and shades every day!

Between swinging as high as the treetops, cooling down with water play and turning ourselves and everything around us into pieces of art that should be hung in a museum, the week has flown by, and we can’t believe that we welcome Holiday Camp back next week already!

Even with the glorious weather and our moods being better than ever, it’s a sad week for us at Chiswick as we say goodbye to not only more friends going off to big school, but also to our wonderful manager Kate. Thank you for all the hair plaiting, face painting and love you have given us! We will miss you dearly, and hope that you swing by to say hi soon!

For your weekend laughs, a joke of the week;
How do we know that the ocean is friendly?
It waves!
