Travelling koalas and flying squirrels
đłWe kickstarted our week by going on a long walk around the Chiswick gardens. We were so eager to show our new staff members the beauty our forest holds. We wandered through secret paths, we observed the birds from our spectacular bridge, we introduced Becca to Grandpa tree, where we all made a wish and gave him a hug in hope to make it come true. We ventured all the way to the waterfall, making sure we said âHelloâ to our spooky friends living in the ghost tree and of course we tested our orientation skills while walking through the maze.
đżThis week we continued learning about our ongoing January theme - nature and biodiversity. We have been discussing various animal species and we carried out a sorting activity, where the children were supported to share their growing knowledge on animals and their unique characteristics such as fur, scales, legs and wings and then categorise them according to their ability to fly or walk. Later in the week we used animal cards for inspiration and worked our imagination to create short stories around animals and their secret lives.
đ¨On Wednesday we were more than excited to celebrate Australia Day. Our beloved puppet Koala had the pleasure to join us in the forest and we were so fascinated to hear all the interesting stories he had from âThe Land Down Underâ. We learned about kangaroos, saltwater crocodiles, dangerous jelly fish and many other peculiar creatures.
đThis Friday for our Wild cooking group we chose to make a fruit salad. We continued working on using potato peelers and we are getting so good at it, that we decided to bring real knifes to the forest and began learning how to safely chop large pieces of fruit with them. It has been so much fun exploring and tasting so many different flavours and we canât wait to see what else wild cooking Fridays have for us.
