Time is flying so quickly; we cannot believe it’s the weekend already! What an array of weather we have had again as well. From 17 degrees and glorious sunshine, to an incredibly wet but fun-filled Wednesday.
Rainy Wednesday has been for some of the children, the very first time they have been exposed to so much rain. It goes to show how quickly we build resilience here at Little Forest Folk as laughter and giggles could be heard around the forest, they were so high spirited despite the downpour from the sky! Thanks to the amazing waterproofs, we managed to stay dry, toasty warm and snuggly which allowed for the fun to continue!
Our physical development was challenged again with various objects we had ready in the forest. We had a variety of climbing frames, swinging ropes that tested our core muscles and agility, as well as a hammock that we very quickly turned into a swing. The hammock has been a great opportunity to test another of our skills – communication and turn taking which can sometimes be a little bit tricky, especially if something as exciting as a hammock needs to be shared. This however has been another skill we have mastered. Sharing has never been so great, especially when we witness our friends having so much fun and giggling away whilst whooshing up and down on a self-made swing.
To celebrate Black History month and discuss diversity, we had a creative corner where we had a go at making African-style masks. Many African masks are made in the traditional holiday colours: black – to symbolise the people of Africa; red - to remind people of the African people’s struggle for freedom; and green – to represent growth. Using templates and the chosen colours, we created beautiful masks that we then decorated with the leaves found on the floor that matched with the colours of the paint. We also had some books that celebrated incredible black women in history and explored who Rosa Parks was with a beautifully illustrated book.
On top of everything else, we had our creative corner with clay and acorns, painting set-up using leaves and sticks as painting tools, climbing ladders, swings, mud cafes and so many more activities that kept us busy and made the time disappear - it was absolutely worth it!
We hope you all have fantastic weekends and for those who won’t be in next week, have an incredible half-term!
