Fulham’s Fourth Birthday!
This week, we have been celebrating Fulham’s fourth birthday! It has been a week full of song, dance and delight! We have been letting the children know and asking, if they wish, to help make decorations using coloured paper and also natural resources like leaves, flower petals and sticks. On Monday, the children arrived at the forest to see bunting hanging from our tarps and branches; seeing the colourful paper blow in the wind with the sunshine casting shadows was a moment to step back and capture!
On the children’s adventure walks into the forest, they chose to revisit the same path as the week before; wanting to walk through the walled garden to see if the pumpkins were still there and to sit and watch the bee’s enter and exit their hives. At our indoor space, we use a soap that has honey as an ingredient. The children have been discussing if perhaps the Fulham palace bees helped to make the honey for it.
The Robins team have been busy constructing bridges using sticks, wooden planks and ropes. They have used their measuring skills to determine what sticks to use. Also, testing their work too; a few of the children were seen standing on the sticks to see if they were strong enough to stand on. A few were put aside because they were not quite bridge worthy!
Also on the Robins team, Karen and a large group of children showed interest in making a trap…for a Lion! The children thought carefully about what materials to use, covering a hole that we have in the ground with leaves and sticks. It turned out that it was actually more of an educator trap instead; the educators had to have their wits about them!
On the Magpie team, Katie introduced a new game to the children. She asked if any of the children had played dominoes before. A few of the children expressed that they had, but that Katie’s dominoes looked a bit different. In this game, you had to look at your set of cards and match the pictures. Giving the children ownership of the game, she let them deal out the cards; asking if everyone playing could get six. With little support, the children led their own game, cheering others on and congratulating those who won. It was lovely to see.
Wednesday was a particularly muddy and wet day, but this didn’t dampen our spirits. Instead it was the inspiration for the most fantastic bridge and steppingstone construction. Logs and benches were placed on puddles to make a pathway. Children were seen balancing along planks and taking huge steps across logs, ending with a jump at the end that landed in a puddle of chocolate soup with a SPLASH!
For those coming to our holiday camps next week, we are excited to welcome you for a week full of fun! For those of you who are off for half term, we hope you have a lovely time spent relaxing, playing and spending time with family. We cannot wait to hear what you get up to!
