Chiswick - Mud kitchen Highlights!

It has been yet another wonderful week in the forest!

The children are beginning to notice the transitions in the forest, as the season shifts from sunny summer into amber autumn. We’ve enjoyed the crunching sound of the fallen leaves beneath our welly boots and have began to embrace the cooler, wetter weather as the new season approaches.

Colourful Hand Printing
A choice of beautiful, autumn coloured paints were given to the children to mix for hand printing to make leaf-like creations at the beginning of the week. This was a joyful, hands-on creative activity for the Little Forest Folk-ers; giving them an opportunity to creatively express and appreciate the magic of the leaves changing colour, which is already beginning to occur in the forest.

Jumping Delights
The Little Forest Folk-ers had plenty of practice developing their gross motor skills as they had so much fun learning to climb a giant tree stump and to jump from it with the close support of our forest educators. We highlighted the importance of bending our knees when jumping so that they develop amazing coordination and safety when exploring the forest.

Calming Lavender Bags
One morning, we did a mindful activity which allowed us to connect with the lovely scents of nature. After one of our educators harvested some lavender from the forest, our adventurers picked the flowers from the stems to be collected for scent bags. They were prompted to notice how the smell of lavender made them feel, and were amazed to discover more of the wonders of the forest and how it can help us to feel more calm.

Mud kitchen Highlights
Some of the mud kitchen specials this week were flower flavoured cupcakes and rainbow chocolate brownies. Once again the children embraced the elements and got stuck in using mud, water, sticks and leaves to make unique and delicious kitchen creations.

Creative Dancing
Another highlight of the week was some free dancing that was led one afternoon by our dance trained forest educator. The theme was to move in a way that made us feel calm and the children were invited to move freely with the choice to follow our educator in some simple relaxing movements. We finished this time with some deep breaths leaving the children in a state of relaxation before some free play.

Thank you for another amazing week, see you in the forest again soon!
