Fulham - Exploring Fulham Palace!

Exploring Fulham Palace ๐Ÿฐ

This week we have made great use of our immediate surroundings. We are extremely privileged to spend our days on the grounds of Fulham Palace, which is rich in both nature and history. We took our Little Forest Folk-ers on a few adventures this week, where we explored the garden grounds and the many grand rooms of the Palace.

Where do you think these eggs came from? ๐Ÿณ

We visited the Barrow Shop in the walled garden, packed full of fresh produce. Our little explorers identified the items they could see, showing off some impressive vegetable knowledge! We spotted potatoes, eggs, hot peppers, lavender, edible flowers and courgettes! We discussed where these products came from - which items came from the palace chickens and which we grow in the ground/or on a tree.

What have you eaten/drank at a cafe before? โ˜•๏ธ

We made our way through the Palace Cafe, having lots of conversations about the purpose of a cafe. What do you think you can buy at a cafe? Can you spot any muffins, sandwiches? What drinks do you think they sell? We challenged childrenโ€™s recall/memory abilities and asked them to tell us all about a time they went to a cafe with their guardians.

What animal do you think this used to be? ๐Ÿ•

We headed into the Palace rooms and checked out the museum. We came across a large skeleton which children immediately assumed would have been some old dinosaur bones. We prompted them to then look for more clues around the room of exactly what animal this may be. It was in fact the old Palace Dog!

What does this flower smell like? ๐ŸŒบ

We have been making the most of the Walled Garden for some picnic style snack times and of course, some flower identification walks! As the seasons are nearing their change we are soaking up the beautiful array of colour the garden brings until a new palette arrives in Autumn. ๐Ÿ‚ Our little ones do such a brilliant job of respecting their surroundings, following our no โ€œpickingโ€ rule and using gentle hands when handling plants while exploring their smell and texture.

What can you spot within these beautiful paintings? ๐Ÿ’’

We then made our way to the chapel, practicing our gentle footsteps and whispers. The children were incredibly respectful of this sacred area and spent time looking all around the ceilings/walls at the artwork. We discussed the texture of the mosaic wall and spotted imagery within the large paintings.
